Where roof leaks actually come from
The wet patch on the ceiling is rarely under the hole in the roof. Water runs along rafters, battens and sarking for metres before it drips. Finding the entry point takes experience, and these are the places we look first.

Gutter and downpipe replacement
Gutters do not last forever. When the rust holes outnumber the sound metal, or the fall is so wrong that water sits in the gutter after every shower, replacement beats another round of patching. We replace gutters in Colorbond, Zincalume or galvanised steel to match the house, set them with the correct fall to the outlets, and fit new downpipes sized for the roof area they drain. Where a house has always overflowed at one corner, the answer is usually an extra downpipe there, not a bigger gutter. Gutter guard is fitted on request for homes under big trees.

Stormwater connection and overflow
A downpipe that discharges onto the ground beside the house is doing damage every time it rains. The water soaks into the footings, undermines paving and, on Sydney clay, causes the movement that cracks brickwork. Every downpipe should connect to a stormwater line that runs to the street kerb, an easement or a council-approved absorption pit. We connect new downpipes, replace broken stormwater pipe and clear lines that are blocked with silt and roots. Blocked stormwater pits and lines are cleared with the same jet blasting gear we use for blocked drains.

Storm damage and make-safe
When a storm tears off sheets, drops a branch through the tiles or fills a box gutter with hail, we come out that night to make the roof safe and stop water getting in.
