Moving things around
Most renovations involve moving at least one fixture. Shifting a toilet to the other wall, turning a bath into a walk-in shower, or moving the kitchen sink to an island all sound simple on a drawing. Underneath, each one means new drainage at the correct fall to the existing sewer, a vent where the rules require one, and water lines rerouted through walls or the slab. On a timber floor this is straightforward. On a concrete slab it means cutting a chase for the new drain, and we plan that so it is done once, cleanly, before the waterproofer arrives. We will tell you honestly which moves are easy, which are worth the cost and which are best left where they are.

Bathroom layouts that work
A good bathroom layout is as much a plumbing question as a design one. The toilet wants to be close to the sewer stack. The shower needs enough fall to the floor waste for the water to actually leave. A freestanding bath in the middle of the room needs a floor-mounted mixer with the pipework arriving in the right spot to the millimetre. Wall-hung toilets and vanities need in-wall cisterns and framing set out before the sheeting. We look at the plan before rough-in and flag the things that will cause trouble, because it is far cheaper to move a line on paper than in a tiled wall.

Waterproofing, compliance and the trades around you
Bathrooms fail at the waterproofing, and waterproofing fails where the plumbing penetrates it. We coordinate with the waterproofer so the floor waste, shower outlet and tap penetrations are finished, sealed and ready before the membrane goes down, and we do not return to fit off until it has cured. All our work is done to the plumbing code and comes with the compliance paperwork the council, your certifier or your strata will ask for. If the renovation includes a new gas cooktop or a gas hot water upgrade, our gas fitting team does it in the same visit, and if the old system cannot keep up with a bigger shower, we can advise on a hot water upgrade before the walls close.
