Why hot water is its own trade
Any plumber can join a pipe. A hot water system is a different animal. It is a pressure vessel, a heating appliance and a piece of licensed plumbing all at once, and getting it wrong is how people end up with a scalded child, a flooded laundry or a gas unit that should never have been signed off.
On a single hot water job the plumber may need to deal with a 240-volt electrical connection, a gas supply and its flue, the cold inlet and its pressure limiting valve, the temperature and pressure relief valve on the tank, and the tempering valve that keeps water at bathroom taps at or below 50 degrees, which is a legal requirement.
